Website Development Process

You are. . .

Focused on achieving business/organization goals

If you're looking for a pretty online brochure and nothing more, I'm sorry, but I'm not the right developer for you. But if you're a business owner or responsible for a mission-driven organization and you're willing to talk about measurable goals and a return on your investment, we should talk.

Willing and able to devote time to this project

If we work together, I'll need you to adhere to the timeline we agree upon for the duration of the project. That means providing me with content and useful feedback when requested, being available for Skype chats, responding to emails promptly. This is really a collaboration, and you must uphold your side of the work.

Ready to make a financial investment

If you really want your website to work for you (meaning that it's so much more than just an attractive online brochure),  you need to understand that this is a business investment. Keep in mind that you're not paying to hire a website coder; you're partnering with a online business consultant. Quality is paramount to me and I don’t cut corners.

Committed to nurturing your investment

Your website is not "done" just because it's been launched. Content must be updated. Calls-to-action must be continually assessed and potentially tweaked for effectiveness. SEO needs to be finessed to achieve your site goals. Are you committed to dedicating internal resources—or engaging on-going support—to attain those goals?

The development process

    Discovery/Strategy

I'll ask you detailed questions about your business goals in order to translate those goals into work assignments for the new site. This is the foundation upon which the entire project is based: a clearly-defined site strategy.

    Sitemap

Once we know what the site needs to do, we'll work on developing the best organizational structure for delivering your content and directing your visitors. The end result will be a sitemap, which allows us to move on to the next phase...

    Design

Were you wondering when we'd get to talk about the design? Your site's goals and content inform the design, so now that I have those it's time to create the look that matches your aesthetic or brand.

    Development

In this phase I'm very happily immersed in code—building and testing, and testing some more. As portions of the site are completed you'll be requested—and expected—to actively participate in review.

    Launch, Train & Maintain

Once your new site is live you'll receive training to ensure you know how to update your content. We'll also discuss optional on-going services such as content delivery and maintenance plans.
